The Northeast Edmonton Literacy Network
From the start, Widening Access project staff explored ways to continue to widen access after the project ended. In the last year, the project hosted a Visioning Workshop. Representatives from community agencies, staff from Edmonton literacy programs, learners from Widening Access literacy programs, and project staff met together. They shared about what they had learned during the project and spoke about the need and interest to continue project activities.
The Northeast Literacy Network was formed as a way to continue to widen access. This action-oriented network includes representatives from a range of community agencies. Network activities include:
- Raising awareness of literacy issues (e.g., International Literacy Day and Learning Day events).
- Helping community agencies create literacy friendly environments.
- Organizing professional development workshops.
